7 reasons to attend NRA Show 2015

As it does each year, the restaurant industry is gearing up to attend the National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show in Chicago.

Tens of thousands of foodservice professionals will converge on NRA Show 2015, the largest tradeshow for the foodservice industry, May 16-19 at McCormick Place in Chicago. This year’s Show will offer something for everyone — from education sessions on issues like nutrition, labor, sustainability and technology, to culinary demonstrations by celebrity chefs. In addition, the best bartenders in America will compete against each other for top honors, and attendees will be able to participate in a series of interactive workshops focused on the latest trends and topics.

“The combination of inspiration gained from these renowned chefs, insights from the more than 70-plus education sessions, discoveries on the show floor and countless interactions with industry peers will make NRA Show 2015 a not-to-be-missed event for any foodservice operator,” said John C. Metz, the Show’s convention chair and executive chef/CEO of Marlow’s Tavern, Aqua Blue restaurant and Sterling Spoon Culinary Management.

Here’s a rundown of the seven biggest reasons to attend NRA Show 2015:

  1. Foodamental Studio will take place each day during the Show. Sponsored by Sysco, the workshops will give attendees an opportunity to take part in hands-on demonstrations by top chefs and industry leaders. Because of last year’s success, the studio moves to a larger space in McCormick Place’s South Hall this year.
  2. Education sessions at this year’s NRA Show will address a broad array of topics relevant to operators and offer a great opportunity to learn about hot-button issues affecting business from experts in the field.
  3. Renowned restaurateur Geoffrey Zakarian will host the fifth annual Restaurants Rock event and this year’s Star of the Bar competition finals. The finalists, chosen during six regional competitions in cities across the country, will showcase their bartending skills May 17 at The House of Blues Chicago.
  4. The Show spotlights this year’s Food and Beverage (FABI) Awards, which recognize the creators of food and beverage products that make a significant impact in the industry. The 28 winners represent today’s leading food trends, from new gluten-free food options to vegetarian alternatives and local sourcing initiatives. Award winners will be showcased at exhibit halls throughout McCormick Place.
  1. The 2015 Kitchen Innovations Awards honor equipment and technologies that increase productivity for back-of-the-house operations. The 23 selected innovations help foodservice operators reduce water use and waste, enhance energy efficiency, increase safety and sanitation, boost cross-functionality, speed up cook times and address space constraints.
  1. World-class celebrity chefs will dish out culinary expertise at the World Culinary Showcase. Top Chef winner Kristen Kish, Chopped judges Marc Murphy and Maneet Chauhan, and returning favorites Rick Bayless, Anne Burrell and Robert Irvine are among the restaurateurs who will be featured at the new Lakeside Center stage. The World Culinary Showcase will run all four days of the Show.

7. Hundreds of suppliers and manufacturers will bring their newest and best products to the Show’s expansive exhibit hall space for attendees to see and sample over the course of the event.
