D.C. restaurants in fundraising effort for hurricane victims

Restaurants, bar owners and hoteliers in Washington, D.C. are teaming up Sept. 2 with the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington to raise funds for Hurricane Harvey victims.

The “D.C. Food and Beverage Give to Harvey” fundraiser, a citywide effort, will support the American Red Cross’ relief efforts. The event’s organizers – DC Brau and Boundary Stone, among others – are asking all area restaurants to participate. Restaurants will donate the money directly into the fundraiser’s Crowdrise page. Area restaurants already have donated more than $6,000 toward the $25,000 goal.

Participating restaurants, including Cava, Clyde’s, Jaleo, Old Ebbitt Grill, Sfoglina, Zaytinya, 1905 and 1789, are donating between 10 percent and 100 percent of their sales to the effort. The deadline for donations is Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. ET. All Washingtonians, including restaurant customers, can donate funds.

All money will help the Red Cross establish housing and relief for hurricane victims during the rebuilding and recovery phase.

Participants on social media can use #DCGIVES and #HARVEYRELIEF to promote their involvement.
