Get answers on cybersecurity—for free

Restaurants may see cybersecurity as a cost without any immediate return on investment, but the costs of doing nothing can be far greater.

“Suffering a breach is going to be a disruption for your business,” said Larry Godfrey, senior director of sales engineering for Heartland Payment Systems. “When it does happen, it can be so catastrophic that it can put you out of business. Cybersecurity is not going to increase revenue, but it could potentially prevent a very large loss.”

Godfrey will be join other cybersecurity experts from Heartland Payment Systems and MasterCard in a free National Restaurant Association webinar to kick off National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Restaurants could become prime targets for cyberattacks due to a high volume of credit and debit card transactions, but also because many may be unprepared to defend against an attack.

Panelists in the October 6 webinar will discus

  • Proactive steps you can take to protect your restaurant
  • The five essential elements of a cybersecurity program.
  • How incorporating encryption into your operation can boost your security
  • Myths about the EMV-liability shift

For a minimal investment, you can prevent a cyberattack from ever happening,” Godfrey said. “Even if you think there’s only a one percent chance of it happening, you have to act.”
