Industry to honor Florida’s hospitality stars, help hurricane victims

After weeks of cleaning up after Hurricane Irma, restaurateurs in Florida are getting ready to celebrate the state’s best operators at the annual Hospitality Stars of the Industry Celebration.

A portion of the proceeds from the Oct. 11 gala’s ticket sales will benefit the Florida Disaster Fund, the state’s official private fund supporting hurricane victims. The event, presented by the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, will be held in Orlando, and honor the industry’s best general managers, employees of the year and chef of the year.

In addition, the FRLA Educational Foundation will present its 2017 Garrett M. Hughes Student of the Year scholarship. Also, hotelier Don Seaton from Clearwater Beach, restaurateur Andrew Reiss of Tallahassee, and insurance provider United Healthcare will be honored as this year’s Hall of Fame recipients. The late Randy Spicer, who headed up our Health & Insurance Services division, is being honored posthumously. Spicer passed away earlier this year.

Ticket sales close Oct. 4, so reserve your seats today.
