More than 50,000 to attend NRA Show in Chicago

More than 50,000 restaurant industry professionals are epected to attend the National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show, which opens Saturday in Chicago.

The NRA Show, which runs through Tuesday, features nearly six miles of exhibit space, filled with food and beverage, equipment and technology companies, as well as businesses that provide marketing, human resource, payment processing and other operational services.

Additionally, the NRA's Marketing Executives Group and Supply Chain Management Study Group, meet today and tomorrow in connection with the convention.

Here's a look at other highlights of the NRA Show:

• Kitchen Innovations Pavilion (South Hall, Booth 2440). Discover equipment innovations that improve quality, productivity, service, and sustainability. This year's recipients are: Alto-Shaam, Bettcher Industries, CookTek Induction Systems, Ecolab, Franke Foodservice Systems, Frontline International, Frymaster, Garland Commercial Ranges, Kaivac, Kitchens to Go, Lang Mfg., Merrychef USA , Power Soak Systems, Rational USA, Sealed Air, Springboard Biodiesel, Vitamix, Vulcan, Wells Manufacturing, and ZipZester.

• World Culinary Showcase (South Hall, Booth 2988). Culinary masters and celebrity chefs such as Richard Blais, Mike Isabella, Rick Bayless and Spike Mendelsohn will perform high-energy, interactive cooking demonstrations all four days of the NRA Show.

• Food and Beverage Products Innovations Gallery (North Hall, Booth 7200). Learn about recipients of the 2012 Food and Beverage Product Innovations Awards: Cavendish Farms, ConAgra Foodservice, Cook Natural Products, Copa di Vino, HJ Heinz Co., HMC Farms, HomeFree LLC, Jennie-O Turkey Store, Kraft, Mighty Leaf Tea, Stouffer's, Oregon Seafoods, SasaSweets, Simpli, Snyder's Lance, Unilever Food Solutions, and White Toque.

• Operator Innovations Award Gallery (Main Concourse, Level 3). The NRA will announce the winners of the Operator Innovations Awards and name the Innovator of the Year Saturday, May 5.

• Healthier Kids Fare Pavilion. Get ideas to enhance your menu offerings for children, and discover ways to develop delicious, nutritious children's menus (South Hall, south end of aisles 100 to 600).

• International Wine, Spirits & Beer Event. Bar managers and beverage alcohol specialists can learn to upgrade beverage programs or ideas fort food and beer, wine or cocktail pairings. In addition to producers, distributors and importers, the May 6 and 7 event offers education sessions offer ideas to help improve margins and increase guest satisfaction (Grand Ballroom, S100) .

• Ask the Design Experts service (North Hall, Booth 6000). Created with the Foodservice Consultants Society International, the service offers tips for front-of-the-house, back-of-the-house and management issues. Sign up in advance at www.restaurant.org/show.

• Education sessions. The NRA Show offers more than 70 free education sessions, including scores of tips to help your business emerge from the recession stronger, more efficient and financially sound (Rooms S402-S405).
