NRA encourages participation in 2012 Economic Census

Every five years, the U.S. government conducts the Economic Census, which maps the U.S. business landscape. The National Restaurant Association (NRA) encourages the restaurant industry to participate in the 2012 Economic Census, as the information collected can help operators make important business decisions and plan for the future.

"There really is a whole host of information that the typical restaurant operator can use and leverage to ensure that when they make that business decision to expand, they are actually doing it based upon the best available market information," said Hudson Riehle, NRA's senior vice president of research.

Watch the Economic Census' video of Riehle discuss why participation in the survey is important.

Available for free on the U.S. Census Bureau website, the data collected through the Economic Census helps business owners compare their business and community to others, identify new business markets, and use in business plans and loan applications.

Forms will be mailed through December and must be completed by February 12, 2013. Business owners are asked to provide a range of operational and performance data for their companies. Businesses are required by law to complete the Economic Census survey forms, which are confidential.
