NRAEF recognizes outstanding ProStart teachers

Teachers from Maryland and Louisiana recently received National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation awards for their commitment to education.

Lisa Christhilf of Western School of Technology and Environmental Science (Maryland) and Angie Drago of Fontainebleau High School (Louisiana) received James H. Maynard Excellence in Education awards. As winners, each received $5,000 cash from Golden Corral.

NRAEF and Golden Corral leaders presented the awards May 7 at the ProStart Educator Excellence Awards Luncheon at the National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show. The awards, named for Golden Corral's founder, recognize excellence in and out of the classroom.

"We are proud to honor the industry's unsung heroes like Lisa and Angie — educators who represent the front-line in preparing our students for successful careers and helping them realize their true potential," said NRA board member Ted Fowler, president and CEO of Golden Corral.

Christhilf and Drago were selected from 35 teachers who won their states' ProStart Educator Excellence awards. State restaurant associations nominate teachers who demonstrate strong commitment to their students and the ProStart program. Winners were flown into Chicago to participate in a weekend of celebration, networking and learning.

"The Educator Excellence Award winners, including Lisa and Angie, embody all that make ProStart educators successful — inspiration, leadership, collaboration — and are very deserving of this honor," NRAEF Executive Director Lynette McKee said.
