New NRA, NRAEF officers, boards elected

mallet.jpgA new slate of officers, including industry veterans Roz Mallet and Xavier Teixido, has been elected to the boards of directors and trustees of the National Restaurant Association and its Educational Foundation, Dawn Sweeney, the NRA's president and CEO, said.

The new officers, who were installed Jan. 1, led their first board meeting last month in Phoenix.

"We are excited to continue to advance our strategic plan for xavier_175.jpg both the National Restaurant Association and NRAEF," she said. "The collective experience of all our officers will help grow membership, educate future industry leaders and strengthen the restaurant and foodservice industry as a whole."

Mallet, president and CEO of PhaseNext Hospitality, a franchiser of fast-casual brands in contract foodservice venues, took over as the NRA's 2012 chair. Joining her at the association are vice chair Phil Hickey, chairman of Nashville, Tenn.-based O'Charley's Inc. casual-dining restaurant company; and treasurer Marshall L. "Ken" Conrad of Greensboro, N.C.-based Libby Hill Seafood Restaurants.

Teixido, president of the upscale Harry's Hospitality Group in Wilmington, Del., was installed as 2012 chair of the NRAEF. Also elected to the board were vice chair Denise Marie Fugo, FMP, who serves as chairman and CEO of catering concern Sammy's in Cleveland, Ohio, and treasurer Michael Gibbons, who is president and CEO of the upscale Mainstream Ventures Inc. in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Newly elected to the NRA's board of directors are: Louis Basile, president and CEO of Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Wildflower Bread Company; John Campbell, general manager of La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club in La Jolla, Calif.; Bill Caskey, vice president of strategic business development at ConAgra Foods in Omaha, Neb.; George Ebinger, president and CEO of GTE Enterprises LLC in Barnegat, N.J.; Michael Hickey, president, Institutional, of Ecolab Inc. in St. Paul, Minn.; Chris O'Herlihy, executive vice president of ITW Food Equipment Group in Glenview, Ill.; Bret Stewart, president of Centertwist Inc., in Woodinville, Wash.; and Jay L. Stieber, executive vice president, CFA & general counsel of Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises in Chicago, Ill.

Trustees elected to the NRAEF board are: Dr. Jerald Chesser, interim dean of the College of Extended University, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in Pomona, Calif.; Jaime González, owner of Keso Mexican Grill in Johns Creek, Ga.; Michael Hickey, president, Institutional, of Ecolab Inc. in St. Paul, Minn.; Peter Meersman, president and CEO of the Colorado Restaurant Association in Denver; Sally Smith, president and CEO of Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. in Minneapolis; Joseph Taylor, vice president of corporate affairs for Brinker International Inc. in Dallas; and Steven Watson, chief operating officer and general manager of Mendakota Country Club in Mendota Heights, Minn.

The NRA board members and NRAEF trustees will serve through Dec. 31, 2014.
