New scholarship aids student's culinary pursuits

When school starts this fall, one more student has chance to pursue her dreams, thanks to a new National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation scholarship.

Sade Donald of Chicago, who graduated from high school with a 3.57 grade point average, is the first recipient of the Stephen P. Donatone Endowed Scholarship. Active in her community, Donald is a model student and leader who works to address social issues.

The $10,000 scholarship is named for Steve Donatone, the husband of NRAEF treasurer Lorna Donatone, chief operating officer for Sodexo North America. The award is endowed through NRAEF’s scholarship program, which last year granted $1.4 million.

“Our family is thrilled to have Sade as the first recipient of the Stephen P. Donatone Endowed Scholarship," Lorna Donatone said. The family wanted to establish a scholarship to benefit a student who had overcome significant obstacles, performed community service and planned to pursue a hospitality career.

“This is exactly what Sade exemplifies. She exudes a passion for learning and for helping to better her community. I could not be more proud and excited for her as she embarks on her college career.”
