New website helps sourcing, purchasing and supply chain

Our Supply Chain Management Executive Study Group collaborated with Texas Christian University to unveil the latest version of SupplyChainScene, a website focused on helping managers successfully navigate challenges associated with sourcing, purchasing and supply chain for foodservice operations.

The ESG’s Best Practices Subcommittee spearheaded the relaunch. It debuted May 9.

The goal, Subcommittee Chair Les Karel said, is to provide the supply chain community with resources specific to restaurant and foodservice supply chain and sourcing.

The content focuses on topics, including blockchain technology’s effect on foodservice, trucking capacity and traceability, among others, he noted. “There are many sites on supply chain and sourcing, but very few, if any, are specific to our industry. We wanted to be able to provide timely briefings on current issues that supply chain professionals are tackling now.”

Karel, senior vice president of indirect sourcing for Arby’s supply chain cooperative Arcop Inc., said the site, which is intended for foodservice supply chain managers, analysts, executives, operators, distributors, suppliers and students, would assist them in finding solutions, understanding trends and advancing best practices.

“We want to provide supply chain members with access to relevant and useful information, as well as a forum where they can share knowledge and discuss ideas that help them conduct business better and with more ease,” he said.
