'Strength in numbers' at NRA Public Affairs Conference

Estella Martinez is coming to Washington, D.C., next month to share her story with Congress.

Martinez, who operates four Matt's Rancho Martinez restaurants in the Dallas area, knows her words will have more impact because she'll be joining hundreds of other restaurateurs for the National Restaurant Association's Public Affairs Conference.

"There's strength in numbers," she says.

Martinez has been coming to the conference for the past four years with other operators from the Texas Restaurant Association. She and her husband operate a spin-off of his parents' 60-year-old restaurant in Austin, Matt's El Rancho.

She says they come to the conference to be with like-minded people with the same issues and same goals, she says. On Capitol Hill, they can be a powerful force when they stand together.

"We need to have our side heard," she says.

The NRA Public Affairs Conference is April 17 and 18. Speakers include Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner (R-Ohio), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), and National Journal Editorial Director Ron Brownstein.

The deadline for early-bird registration and hotel-block discounts is March 16. Get more information, and register.
