Sweeney one of ‘Most Powerful People in Food’

Dawn Sweeney, president and CEO of the National Restaurant Association, has been named one of 2014’s “Most Powerful People in Food” by online publication The Daily Meal.

This is the second year in a row Sweeney was named to the list.

The NRA’s chief was recognized for her leadership across multiple initiatives, including the NRA’s food safety, environmental sustainability, workforce-preparation and children’s nutrition initiatives.

The Daily Meal’s editors select recipients for their impact on the quality and variety of the American diet, and the way Americans think about eating. The list includes heads of national food processing and distribution companies and retail food outlets, agribusiness moguls, tech gurus and restaurateurs, among others..

“We are proud that Dawn is included among such a prestigious list of industry leaders,” said Ken Conrad, the NRA’s newly installed chairman. “Dawn has led the NRA and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation to new heights, advocating and promoting important initiatives that benefit America’s restaurants and the more than 13 million people they employ.”

As the NRA’s chief executive, Sweeney heads up the primary business association representing the restaurant industry.

In addition to her work with the Association, Sweeney also serves as CEO of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, a philanthropic entity dedicated to enhancing the industry's service to the public. The NRAEF’s major goal is to prepare students for rewarding careers in restaurant management and the culinary arts through its ProStart program, which is taught in more than 1,900 high schools across the country, and through the provision of educational scholarships to those students.
