Team USA wins silver at Bocuse d’Or contest

A team of American chefs made history in Lyon, France, when it won the United States' first-ever silver medal at this year’s Bocuse d’Or cooking competition.

Team USA, who competed in the two-day event last month, was led by renowned chefs Thomas Keller, Daniel Boulud and Gavin Kaysen, as well as chefs Phil Tessier and Skylar Stovar of Keller’s famed French Laundry restaurant in Yountville, Calif.

The team finished with 1,653 points, only 10 points behind Norway, who took the gold medal and Sweden, who earned the bronze with 1,610 points.

Twenty-four teams competed in this year’s contest.

In 2013, Boulud told the National Restaurant Association that he and Keller got involved in the U.S. team’s quest to win a medal to show the world “American competitors are just as capable and formidable as those who have typically excelled in this arena. Our goal was to make the American team a better competitor and a contender for the podium.”

Mission accomplished.
