Which state pulled an upset in the Taste of America tournament?

There will be a new champion crowned in this year’s Roll Call Taste of America tournament, which is down to favorite foods from 16 states after a hotly contested second round that saw Delaware’s boardwalk fries knock off the defending champion, West Virginia’s pepperoni roll.

The First State’s favorite fries now face a traditional summer titan in Maine’s lobster roll for the right to move on to the final

round of eight. Other key Sweet 16 matchups pit Memphis barbecue of Tennessee against Kentucky’s fried chicken, Maryland’s crab cakes against New York’s Buffalo wings, and Texas’ corn dogs versus North Carolina’s barbecue.

Round three of online voting in the tournament is open until June 6. The final eight foods will be served at a reception at Nationals Ballpark in Washington, DC, prior to the Congressional Baseball Game. The winner will be announced June 25. Vote for your favorite at www.rollcalltasteofamerica.com.

The National Restaurant Association is co-sponsoring this year’s tournament, along with the National Beer Wholesalers Association, the National Pork Producers Council, and the American Frozen Food Institute.
