Which state’s food took home the trophy in the 2014 Taste of America?

After a grueling, six-week tournament full of sweet and savory tales of triumph and defeat, Utah’s cherry cobbler stood alone as Roll Call’s Taste of America champion.

The competition pitted 64 of the nation’s favorite local foods against one another in an online competition for culinary supremacy. The foods with the highest number of online votes advanced.

The delectable dessert from the Beehive State, which also won the Taste of America title in 2012, finished ahead of seven other finalists. Maine’s lobster roll, Maryland’s crab cakes, Illinois’s deep dish pizza, Kentucky’s fried chicken, Oregon’s blackberry pie, North Carolina’s barbecue and Iowa’s bacon. All eight dishes were served at a reception held during Roll Call’s Congressional  Baseball Game on Wednesday at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

The National Restaurant Association is co-sponsoring this year’s tournament, along with the National Beer Wholesalers Association, the National Pork Producers Council, and the American Frozen Food Institute.
