Restaurants often are inundated with requests to donate to nonprofit causes, making it difficult for smaller outlets to say “yes” to every appeal. Faced with this dilemma, Blue Moon Mexican Cafe developed a Community Nights Program. It invites nonprofit organizations to raise funds by dining at the restaurant. Based on the restaurant sales that each nonprofit helps generate on its Community Night, Blue Moon donates 20 percent to the organization, along with providing heavy marketing support through fliers, posters and Web site promotions. In 2007, Blue Moon’s community nights helped nonprofit organizations, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, churches and educational foundations, raise more than $130,000.
