Ed and Barbara O’Brien always wanted to reciprocate the generosity of the schools that helped educate their seven children. So the couple, who have operated Jake’s Seafood Restaurant & Market for 24 years, established a scholarship fund for their local high school in the late 1980s. That fund has since grown into two separate funds — one that provides scholarships to qualified employees each spring and another that awards a $5,000 scholarship to a Hull High School senior who adds to fellow students’ quality of life. Both funds have distributed about $40,000 in scholarship monies to deserving students. The O’Briens have also contributed more than $100,000 to the community’s town scholarship committee.
