At Old Lahaina Luau and Aloha Mixed Plate restaurants, community outreach efforts center on Hawaiian culture, kupuna (elderly), keiki (children) and the environment. One of the company’s major volunteer programs is the Ho’omanawalea Service Awards, which encourage employees to volunteer for company-wide programs or organizations of their choice. The company tracks volunteer hours and recognizes the top 10 employees at an end-ofyear awards banquet. At the 2007 dinner, the 10 winning employees presented a $20,000 donation to representatives of 10 Maui nonprofit organizations and three Lahaina schools. The company is involved in other outreach efforts, including the Adopt-a-Highway Program, Maui Coastal Land Trust and Lahaina-Honolua Seniors Club.
