(Washington, D.C.) The National Restaurant Association will present its Restaurant Neighbor Award to Madam’s Organ at a gala luncheon on Monday, Sept. 14. A local landmark in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of the city, Madam’s Organ won the small business category of the national awards for its work with inner-city children.

DETAILS:
Madam’s Organ owner Bill Duggan, his staff, family and the community, bring groups of Washington, D.C. kids to the beach each summer. Duggan believes that spending time at the beach allows young people to just be the children they are, which can be a challenge on the inner city streets. Duggan buses the children to his property in Dewey Beach, Del., for a week’s fun in the sun. Throughout the year, Duggan keeps in touch with many of the children and their families — many drop in for soda and wings after school.

The National Restaurant Association and founding partner American Express developed the Restaurant Neighbor Award to raise awareness about the restaurant industry’s contributions in local communities across the country and to inspire other restaurant operators and owners to make even greater contributions in their communities.

WHEN:

Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. (luncheon starts at 11 a.m.)

WHERE:
Hyatt Regency
