Here at the National Restaurant Association we're always thinking ahead, especially when it comes to sustainability and social responsibility. Whether it's reducing energy and water use or finding new ways to be good corporate citizens, the Association and its members are continually looking for ways to improve.
The National Restaurant Association's Conserve initiative is designed to inspire actions that improve a company's bottom line, but also are good for people and the planet. Conserve explores conservation efforts being adopted by restaurants around the nation and offers suggestions and resources to help you reduce the cost of running your operation — both to your bottom line and the environment. The National Restaurant Association and American Express salute restaurateurs who go above and beyond in giving back to their communities through the Restaurant Neighbor Award. Each year, we give away $20,000 to restaurants for their outstanding community projects.

The National Restaurant Association has partnered with Food Donation Connection, an organization that oversees and administers food donation programs for food service companies. Food Donation Connection acts as the liaison between the food service companies interested in donating leftover food and the social service agencies that provide feeding programs for people at risk of hunger. FDC coordinates all aspects of the program so that food companies can take advantage of unrealized tax savings while providing an alternative to discarding surplus food.
