More » Sales Trends [March 12, 2010] Eating and Drinking Place Sales Stood Below 2009 Levels in January and February Eating and drinking place sales remained below 2009 levels during the first two months of 2010, according to preliminary figures from the U.S. Census Bureau. On a year-to-date basis through February 2010, eating and drinking place sales declined 0.6 percent, after adjusting for seasonal, holiday and trading-day factors. In comparison, grocery store sales rose 3.0 percent on a year-to-date basis through February 2010. Meanwhile, total retail sales (excluding foodservice) were up a solid 4.5 percent during the first two months of 2010, after adjusting for seasonal, holiday and trading-day factors.
