6 ways TrendMapper can help your business reach its goals

Looking for the latest data on food prices, restaurant sales or employment? You can sift through mountains of raw data from federal agencies, or you can use the National Restaurant Association’s Restaurant TrendMapper, which offers all of the information you need to run your business — in one place.

Katie Walker, sales analyst for Ste. Michelle Wine Estates in Woodinville, Washington, says it’s her primary source of economic information because it’s quick and easy to access. “Instead of going to a bunch of different sources, I can just go to one.”

Ste. Michelle Wine Estates sells to national hotel and restaurant chains, grocery stores and retailers.

“We look at specific segments to see which ones might be doing better than others,” Walker says. “Anyone else following the restaurant industry would be interested in those things as well. “

Here are six ways restaurateurs and suppliers can use the Restaurant TrendMapper online subscription service to stay on top of restaurant economic indicators:

Develop sales strategies: Walker uses the Restaurant TrendMapper information to prepare slides that track trends like same-store sales volume, traffic and sales expectations by category of dining. “In general, the data gives us an indication of how the business is going and what we can expect in any long- and short-term impacts on our business,” she says. The service offers downloadable charts that can be added to presentations.

Track menu pricing trends: Thinking of raising your menu prices? Restaurant TrendMapper will tell you where menu and grocery store prices stand against inflation and how they compare to recent trends.

Monitor regional trends: Restaurant TrendMapper includes analysis on menu price growth in four regions of the U.S. and identifies where it’s strongest. Articles also examine which states are likely to have the highest restaurant sales growth, which states are adding the most restaurants, and where inflation is highest.

Get predictions on food and commodity pricing: While it is impossible to predict exactly where food and commodity prices will end up in the future, Restaurant TrendMapper’s analyses of current and past economic data can show you where they might be headed. Subscribers recently received an analysis of major wholesale food prices comparing each commodity’s current price to where prices stood a year earlier.

Find out where you stand in your segment: Subscribers to Restaurant TrendMapper receive aggregated, monthly data from the NRA’s monthly Industry Tracking Survey, which provides the base for the Restaurant Performance Index. The information is broken down by restaurant segment.

Get data tailored for the restaurant industry: In addition to the NRA’s expert analysis, Restaurant TrendMapper offers access to downloadable data in Excel files so you can perform your own analyses.
