‘The Hill’ names NRA’s DeFife a top lobbyist

Scott DeFife, the National Restaurant Association’s executive vice president of the policy and government affairs, was named one of 2013’s top lobbyists by national newspaper “The Hill”.

This is the fifth time DeFife was tapped by the publication for inclusion on its annual Top Lobbyists list.

“Scott has led the National Restaurant Association on every policy front with continued success for the restaurant industry,” said Dawn Sweeney, its president and CEO. “From immigration and health care reform showcasing the entrepreneurial strength of the industry, Scott’s work with Congress and the Administration has benefited millions of restaurateurs and restaurant employees nationwide. He has built a first-rate team, and we so proud of the impact they make each and every day.”

The NRA, under DeFife’s leadership, has played a significant role in encouraging the Obama Administration to delay the Affordable Care Act’s employer-mandate penalties and some reporting requirements until 2015. It also has been vocal about immigration reform, making it a top priority for the restaurant industry and playing a key role in moving reform forward. Creating a clear path to legalization for undocumented workers, national use of the E-Verify employment verification system, and increased border security that does not impede legal travel and tourism are among the objectives DeFife and the Association are currently working on with members of Congress as well as the White House.

Also, in an effort to further educate policymakers on the restaurant industry’s impact on the American economy, DeFife initiated the NRA’s America Works Here campaign to share its story and the role it plays in job creation.

Additionally, the Association’s chief lobbyist is leading the NRA’s sustainability and environmental efforts under its Conserve brand to help restaurateurs implement best practices critical to protecting the environment and reducing their operating costs.
