100th Restaurant Roundtable a 2017 milestone

On Oct. 29, we celebrated our 100th Restaurant Roundtable of 2017. The event, part of a program that brings restaurateurs and lawmakers together, was held at Ted J. Balestreri's Sardine Factory restaurant in Monterey, Calif. U.S. Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) was the featured guest.

Why Roundtables are important: They allow restaurateurs and politicians to discuss how regulations and legislation could help or hurt business. Panetta said he was pleased to be able to meet with the restaurant owners and discuss the industry he worked in as a youth.

Balestreri, past chairman of the National Restaurant Association and its Educational Foundation, and chairman and CEO of the Sardine Factory/Cannery Row Company, thanked Panetta for speaking with the local restaurant and hospitality operators who attended the event.

About our 2017 Restaurant Roundtables: So far, 700 people representing 33 states have participated, including 10 senators and 90 representatives. Lawmakers attending our events this year include U.S. Senators Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), John Boozman (R-Ark.), and Rand Paul (R-Ky.). U.S. House of Representatives include Congressmen Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.), Ron Kind (D-Wis.), Mike Bost (R-Ill.), Martha Roby (R-Ala.), Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and Bradley Byrne R-Ala.).

A little history: We started the Restaurant Roundtables program in 2015. Along with our State Restaurant Association partners, we hosted 15 roundtables in our first year, 70 in 2016 and currently 100 in 2017.
