1st and goal: ProStart kids score big at Taste of NFL



ProStart students tackle the task of prepping food for the big party

The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LII, but 83 of our ProStart students from Minnesota did a victory dance the night before, when they scored the chance to assist a coterie of renowned chefs at the Taste of the NFL, the National Football League’s star-studded event to end hunger in America.

The students helped famed chefs, including Kevin and Kent Rathbun, Carrie Nahabedian, Robert Del Grande, Allen Susser and Susan Spicer, set up and prep food for the Feb. 3 event that was held Super Bowl eve at the Saint Paul RiverCentre. The sold-out soiree featured more than 35 food stations, each hosted by a chef from an NFL city and a current or former "star" professional football player. At the festivities, the students, guided by their instructors, served tasting plates to guests and assisted in cleanup after the party ended.

Called “Party With a Purpose,” this year’s Taste of the NFL raised more than $1 million to fight hunger in America. It debuted in Minneapolis in 1992, when the city hosted the Super Bowl for the first time. Since then, the event has donated more than $25 million to food banks and nonprofit organizations located in 32 NFL cities.

ProStart, the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s two-year program, teaches high school students fundamental culinary arts and hospitality management skills. Today, more than 137,000 students are enrolled in the program, which is offered in all 50 states.
