7 reasons for kids to love eating healthy when dining out

Did you know that healthful kids’ meals are one of the hottest trends in restaurants? It’s actually No. 4 out of 200 menu trends, according to the National Restaurant Association. The association is celebrating the 4th birthday of its Kids LiveWell program, which makes the healthful choice, the easy choice for families when dining out.
1. Restaurants participating in Kids LiveWell can be found in all 50 states. Children can also be found in all 50 states. Coincidence? I think not! Download the free Kids LiveWell app to find participating restaurants near you while on-the-go.
2. When adding up Kids LiveWell meals at all participating restaurants, there are 394 from which to choose. In other words, you could eat a different Kids LiveWell dinner every day for over a year. Visit HealthyDiningFinder.com to see the list of where to find them.
3. Entrée salads are the fourth hottest kids’ menu trend this year, according to the association. Gone are the days of limp lettuce, as restaurants now feature a wide range of delicious options, like T-BONES’ grilled chicken salad. Altogether, Kids LiveWell menus feature nearly 500 servings of fruit and more than 375 servings of vegetables.
4. More than 42,000 restaurant locations nationwide feature Kids LiveWell menu items. That’s about the same number of restaurants as there are in Maryland, Massachusetts and Michigan combined!
5. Kids’ menus are also trending more sophisticated and adventurous. Ethnic-inspired dishes are among the top trends in the children’s meal category. For example, Bluewater Grill’s grilled chicken dipping sticks – they also offer fish, shrimp and steak!
6. Kids LiveWell is 155 brands strong, including some of the most popular restaurant chains in the country. That is an increase of 715 percent from the program’s launch in 2011.
7. Whole grain items in kids’ meals are a hot trend on restaurant menus according to 68 percent of professional chefs. Kids LiveWell menus feature nearly 110 servings of whole grains, including Carrabba’s whole grain spaghetti pomodoro.
