Are you attending the 2017 Gold & Silver Plate Awards?

The crème de la crème of foodservice is getting ready to honor the industry’s very best at the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association’s 63rd annual Gold & Silver Plate Awards in Chicago.

The celebration will take place May 20 at the Revel Fulton Market in Chicago’s West Loop, during NRA Show 2017. It will be hosted by industry veteran Joseph K. Fassler, who won the IFMA Gold Plate in 1996.

Often called the “Academy Awards of foodservice,” the Gold & Silver Plate gala recognizes the contributions and innovations of leading operators and the work they’ve done to advance business.

This year’s slate of Silver Plate winners are:

  • Independent Restaurants/Multi-Concept: Wolfgang Puck, chef/owner, Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group (nominated by Nestlé Professional)
  • Chain Full Service: G.J. Hart, executive chairman and CEO, California Pizza Kitchen (nominated by Wayne Farms)
  • Chain Limited Service: Chris Newcomb, co-founder, president and CEO, Newk’s Eatery (nominated by Wenner Bakery)
  • Health Care: Patti Oliver, director of nutrition, UCLA Health System (nominated by Hobart Corp. and Basic American Foods)
  • Elementary and Secondary Schools: Betti Wiggins, executive director, office of school nutrition, Detroit Public Schools (nominated by Schwan’s Food Service)
  • Colleges and Universities: Ted Faulkner, director of dining services, Virginia Tech (nominated by Basic American Foods)
  • Business and Industry/Foodservice Management: Jeff Metz, president and CEO, Metz Culinary Management (nominated by Basic American Foods)
  • Retail and Specialty Foodservice: Chris Gheysens, president and CEO, Wawa, Inc. (nominated by Nestlé Professional)

The Gold Plate award will be announced by way of secret ballot at the end of the gala. A new addition to the roster of awards this year is the National Restaurant Association’s first annual Legends award, which will recognize one operator’s distinguished career in foodservice.
