Association, Winsight partner to expand industry impact

The National Restaurant Association and Winsight Media, publisher of several B2B business publications and owner of marketing research firm Technomic Inc., have entered into an equity partnership giving Winsight operational ownership and execution of the annual National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show.

Under the 45-year sponsorship agreement, the Show, nationally recognized as the largest of its kind for foodservice professionals, will remain branded with the Association’s name. Winsight will build on the Show’s success and accelerate its programming and content to drive attendance and increase value for atendees.

As part of the deal, the National Restaurant Association will obtain an advisory seat on Winsight’s board of directors. Financial terms weren’t disclosed, but the two companies, who signed the agreement Sept. 28, expect it to be finalized during the fourth quarter of this year.

Dawn Sweeney, the National Restaurant Association’s president and CEO, said the partnership between the two organizations would serve the foodservice industry’s emerging and changing needs.

“This collaboration will allow us to grow the impact and reach of our Show, while elevating the level of service we provide to our members, including enhanced member benefits, advocacy, training certification and content,” she said.

Sweeney added that the agreement would result in an enhanced Show experience and greater opportunities for all Show stakeholders, including members, sponsors, partners, exhibitors and attendees. Also, favorite Show features, such as its Signature keynote session, Future of Restaurants supersession, Innovation Hub and World Culinary Showcase will continue, as would the Restaurants Rock celebration.

“Collaborating with the National Restaurant Association provides a tremendous opportunity for Winsight and its team,” said CEO Mike Wood. “Through products such as Technomic’s company profiles, menu insights, and consumer trends, combined with our media business’s vast market knowledge and audience intelligence platform, we look forward to serving the ever-increasing needs of the Show and the industry.” said Winsight CEO Mike Wood. “We are confident our resources, combined with those of the National Restaurant Association, have created a partnership dedicated to the success of the restaurant and foodservice industries of today and tomorrow.”

Mary Pat Heftman will continue to lead the Show team. She and her staff will move over to Winsight, and she will become president of the company’s Restaurant Show Group.
