Brennan family spearheads hurricane fund for hospitality employees

The Louisiana Restaurant Association has teamed up with the Commander’s Family of Restaurants and the Greater New Orleans Foundation to activate the Hurricane Harvey Hospitality Employee Relief Fund.

The fund will help hospitality employees in Houston get back on their feet as the city recovers from the hurricane and the extensive flooding it caused.

Stan Harris, the LRA’s president and CEO, said Louisiana knows too well about the difficulties associated with hurricanes. Aug. 29 was the 12th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

He noted that Louisiana’s challenges with weather-related events have provided the experience to aid the victims of Hurricane Harvey. “Helping direct money to get hospitality employees back on their feet and to work is critical to Houston’s recovery,” he said.

Alex Brennan Martin, president of Brennan’s of Houston, and Ti Martin of Commander’s Family of Restaurants, said Louisiana would never forget the way the Houston community came to its aid after Katrina hit. “We are returning the favor,” Ti Martin said.

Harris said criteria for grant eligibility is under development and that the funds would benefit restaurant and hotel workers struggling during the recovery period. HERF will work with the Texas Restaurant Association and its Greater Houston association chapter to disburse the money, he added.
