DOL to address health care compliance questions

The Departments of Labor and Health and Human Services on Wednesday will hold a webcast on several aspects of the 2010 health care law, including the employee-notice requirement, the health insurance exchanges and Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP exchanges), the extension of dependent coverage to age 26, and prohibitions on pre-existing conditions.

Register for Wednesday’s webcast, scheduled from 1 p.m to 2:30 p.m. ET.

Wednesday’s webcast is the second of a two-part series on health care-related topics. On Tuesday, speakers from the DOL addressed the final rules on employee wellness programs, and Department of Treasury staff discussed the employer shared responsibility provisions, including the penalties that will apply to some large employers who don’t offer full-time employees health plans starting in 2015 or whose coverage doesn’t meet the law’s minimum standards for value and affordability. An archived version of Tuesday’s webcast can be viewed on the DOL website. Topics included

  • The difference between health-contingent and participatory wellness programs, and what’s required for employers to offer rewards under each type of plan.
  • When large employers could be liable for a “shared responsibility payment.”
  • Seasonal worker exceptions
  • How hours are counted to determine full-time status for shared responsibility payments
