In-need students benefit from equipment donation

The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and Cambro Manufacturing, a maker and supplier of equipment for the foodservice industry, have teamed up to provide culinary equipment and supplies to in-need high schools across the country, said Rob Gifford, executive vice president of strategic operations and philanthropy for both the NRA and NRAEF.

According to Gifford, more than 35 schools in 10 states have already benefitted from the donation. Cambro is a strong supporter of the NRAEF’s ProStart program, a two-year, national program that teaches students culinary and restaurant management skills and helps them develop into the industry's future leaders.

“With Cambro’s donation,” said Gifford, “ProStart students have access to quality equipment and can learn the skills they need to achieve long-term, rewarding careers in the restaurant and foodservice sector.”

Greg Fischer, Cambro’s executive vice president of sales and marketing, said the company’s donation is part of its commitment to investing in the people and programs that make up the industry’s future.

“ProStart is an incredibly valuable program that continues to grow, and we are proud to play an important role in helping in-need programs succeed,” he said. “We see how much ProStart students share our passion for and commitment to foodservice and want to continue to support them as they work toward achieving their goal of having a career in the restaurant and hospitality industry.”

Gifford said NRA research indicates total restaurant and foodservice employment is projected to grow by 11 percent over the next 10 years.

“The NRAEF is committed to ensuring the development of a highly-trained and professional talent pool through scholarships and educational programs, like ProStart,” he said. “Today, the curriculum is taught at more than 1,700 schools and to nearly 100,000 students across 48 states, Guam and on Department of Defense military bases. We are very proud of ProStart and the accomplishments of our students. We believe this donation will help grow those accomplishments even further in future.”
