Industry readies for health care ruling, next steps

All eyes are on the Supreme Court as justices prepare to rule Thursday on the constitutionality of the 2010 health care law.

The National Restaurant Association is ready to help its members understand the ruling's impact, starting with a member-exclusive webinar June 29, 10 a.m. EDT.

Seyfarth Shaw attorneys who helped the NRA file its amicus brief in the Supreme Court case will explain and summarize the key holdings of decision. Future webinars will take a deeper look at the rulings's practical implications for restaurateurs, and next steps for the restaurant industry.

NRA members can register for the June 29 webinar here; your member number will be required.

Whether the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or parts of it stand or fall, one thing is certain: The U.S. health care system is shifting. As a result, businesses are going through major changes, not just because of federal and state regulations, but also because of unsustainably high health care costs.

The NRA is aggressively weighing in on members' behalf on every front. In addition to filing the Supreme Court brief urging justices to invalidate the law's employer mandate if they decide the individual mandate is unconstitutional, the NRA continues to file detailed comments with regulators to mitigate the law's impact on restaurateurs if portions of the law affecting employers are upheld. And the NRA and its members are working to explain to Congress why the law can't stand as written.

Stay tuned to www.restaurant.org/healthcare for details as they unfold.
