Join Small Business Saturday and grow your sales

If you think Black Friday is a big deal, don’t miss out on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 24.

Join the tens of thousands of retailers and restaurateurs who are encouraging customers to “Shop Small” on this special day. Why? Consumers will better understand how important small businesses are to their communities and the economy.

Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday has not only become an annual shopping tradition, it also is a way to help small businesses get more customers and increase their sales. The day is dedicated to supporting the local business community, which creates jobs, boosts the economy and enhances neighborhoods around the country.

“What began nine years ago as an effort to support local stores during the holiday shopping season has become the ‘Shop Small’ movement, bringing together millions of shoppers, small businesses of all kinds, civic leaders and organizations in thousands of towns and cities across the country,” said Elizabeth Rutledge, American Express’ chief marketing officer. “Shopping small has a significant and positive effect on local communities, and we hope Small Business Saturday will help to amplify that effect during the crucial holiday shopping season. When small businesses thrive, we all thrive.”

According to research commissioned by American Express, on average, two-thirds of every dollar – or approximately 67 cents – spent at small U.S. businesses stays in the local community. In addition, every dollar spent at small businesses creates an additional 50 cents in local business activity because of employee spending and businesses purchasing local goods and services.

Corporate supporters of this year’s event include FedExm, Etsy, Intuit, Microsoft and Square.

Small owners and operators who want to participate in Small Business Saturday can create their own customizable marketing materials at ShopSmall.com.
