Vegas PBS partners with ServSafe

Restaurant and casino employees are learning responsible alcohol service practices through an online training program.

The National Restaurant Association and Nevada Restaurant Association are offering ServSafe Alcohol training through Global Online Advanced Learning, a job training web site from Vegas PBS.

Under Nevada law, owners or operators establishments that sell alcoholic beverage establishments must ensure employees complete a state-certified alcohol beverage awareness program such as ServSafe Alcohol. Employees who serve or sell alcohol or work as security guards must show proof of training through an alcohol-education card within 30 days of hire.

Although many operators offer ServSafe training, the partnership with Vegas PBS allows employees to complete the training on their own. The site is designed to help Las Vegas residents receive training that could lead to new career opportunities.

The program helps create more competitive job candidates, says Katherine Jacobi, president of the Nevada Restaurant Association. If a job candidate already has a ServSafe Alcohol when he or she applies for a job, they will be more desirable to employers, who won't have to provide that training.
