Military hiring program to boost spouses' careers

As part of its support for military service men and women and their families, the National Restaurant Association’s Educational Foundation, recently joined the Department of Defense’s Military Spouse Employment Partnership, a program that helps connect military spouses with portable career opportunities.

The NRAEF joined the program in mid-October, at the Partnership’s annual induction ceremony in Arlington, Va. Its intention: assist spouses from all military services in their search for career opportunities in the restaurant industry.

Rob Gifford, the foundation’s executive vice president, said the NRAEF is excited at the prospect of helping the spouses of active and retired service men and women find rewarding new careers in the restaurant and hospitality industry.

“This is yet another way for us to support military members and their families in transitioning into our industry and providing them with pathways to long-term careers,” he said.

The NRAEF, through its own military program, assists members of the armed forces, their families and all veterans in their transition to hospitality industry careers once they separate from military service.

Currently, the restaurant industry employs about 238,000 veterans. By participating in the DOD partnership program, the NRAEF will be able to grow its efforts to support military and military spouse employment.
