NRA names 2017 officers, board members

Congratulations to the new officers and board members who will serve the National Restaurant Association and NRA Educational Foundation this year.

As we engage with a new Congress and Administration on issues important to our industry, their leadership and experience will play a critical role in defining our policy priorities.

Here’s a rundown of the new officers and board members:

National Restaurant Association

Chair: Jeff Davis is chairman of United States Beef Corporation (US Beef), headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. US Beef is the largest franchisee of Atlanta based Arby’s Restaurant Group, now operating more than 340 Arby’s restaurants in eight states. US Beef also owns six Taco Bueno restaurants in northwest Arkansas.

Vice chair: Jay Stieber, executive vice president and general counsel of Chicago-based Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises Inc., is a past chair of the Illinois Restaurant Association and serves on its executive committee. He also sits on the boards of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and its PAC. LEYE operates more than 40 concepts in over 100 locations.

Treasurer: Joe Essa, president and CEO of Los Angeles-based Wolfgang Puck Worldwide, spearheads development of its casual restaurant and consumer products businesses. Before joining the company, he was vice president of operations at New York City-based TOSCORP Inc., a fine-dining Italian restaurant group.

In addition, the NRA named new board members this year. They include: Red Lobster’s Horace Dawson, Jeff Geller of Yum! Brands franchisee Palo Alto Inc., Perry Miele of Nestle Professional North America, IFMA’s Larry Oberkfell, Richard Schneider of Delaware North Cos.’ Sportservice division, Beth Scott of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, Rick Silva of Checkers & Rally’s Restaurants Inc., and Lance Trenary of Golden Corral Corp.

NRA Educational Foundation

Chair: Greg Hamer Sr., FMP, owner of B&G Food Enterprises Inc., operates 94 Taco Bell, Taco Bell/KFC, and Taco Bell/Long John Silver franchise restaurants in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Hamer, who employs a workforce of more than 2,400, is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Legatus International and sits on the board of the Mardi Gras Krewe of Hepheastus. He also serves on the Taco Bell Foundation Board and is chair of the Community Foundation of Acadiana’s St Mary Affiliate.

Vice chair: Sam Facchini, co-founder and co-owner of the Las Vegas-based Metro Pizza chain, is dedicated to the education, growth and success of future restaurateurs. He has worked for years on developing scholarship programs at local high schools and the University of Las Vegas hospitality school. He also sits on the board of the Nevada Restaurant Association.

Treasurer: Geoff Hill, principal of the private-equity firm Roark Capital Group, is responsible for leading sourcing activity for franchise and multiunit acquisitions as well as portfolio management for several of the company’s restaurant investments. Roark owns 19 restaurant brands in 16,000 locations. Before joining the firm, Hill was president of Cinnabon, a Roark-owned quick-service restaurant company.

The NRAEF also has added several new members to our board. They include: Doug Allison of PepsiCo Foodservice, Shaun Beard of SAVOR/Premier, Jessica Dunker of the Iowa Restaurant Association, John Eastman of Auto-Chlor Services LLC, and Marilou Halvorsen of the New Jersey Restaurant Association.
