What's ahead for your business? Chatbots, on-demand delivery and more data

On-demand delivery seemed to be the hot topic Thursday morning at the last day of our Restaurant Innovation Summit. The Twittersphere was afire with commentary over on-demand delivery guidelines and challenges and opportunities for virtual restaurants.

But delivery wasn't the only Day 3 source of discussion. We talked chatbots and captured Pokemon, and our own Annika Stensson shared our new research on restaurant technology. Here's what attendees were talking about:

On-demand delivery guidelines

Cicely Simpson, our executive vice president of government affairs, provided a brief overview of the NRA’s recent conversations with delivery companies Caviar, GrubHub and UberEATS. We’re working to firm up best practices that can help restaurants and third-party delivery services work better together and provide top-notch customer service.

Virtual restaurants

We took a look at virtual restaurants, where food is produced in-house but served only by delivery. Peter Schatzberg, CEO and co-founder of Green Summit Group; Jeremiah Green, CEO and co-founder of Eat Purely; and Justin Massa, director of business strategy at IDEO, shared their culinary philosophies, marketing approaches and kitchen logistics for their virtual restaurants.

Mapping the technology landscape

Selecting the right customer-facing technology can be a tall order. To help restaurant owners and operators determine what could best fit their businesses’ needs, Annika Stennson, our director of research communications, outlined key findings from our "Mapping the Restaurant Technology Landscape" report.

'Lure' in guests with Pokemon Go

The immensely popular Pokemon Go app is on more phones than Twitter and Google Maps. Sarah Pendley, the public relations manager of VERTS, and Jordan Beckvonpeccoz, the brand’s designer, discussed how they tapped into the game’s popularity and scored a 114 percent increase in traffic.

The chatbot takes your order

Wingstop CIO Stacy Peterson shared how the company integrated chatbots in to its ordering process. In a discussion moderated Food Loft co-founder Adam Salomone. Peterson and Ben Lamm, CEO and co-founder of Conversable, discussed challenges and benefits of using chatbots.
