Sweeney, Simpson on 2017 Power List

Congratulations to the National Restaurant Association’s Dawn Sweeney and Cicely Simpson – two of the most powerful people in foodservice, according to Nation’s Restaurant News magazine.

Sweeney, president and CEO, and Simpson, executive vice president of policy and government affairs, were named to the magazine’s Power List for 2017. The pair landed the number five spot in the list’s top 10, for their efforts to shape good public policy for restaurants.

“The restaurant industry has many challenges to navigate in coming years: the issue of labor, healthcare regulations, joint-employer regulations; menu labeling; and overtime regulations,” the magazine’s managing editor, Marcella Veneziale, stated. Sweeney and Simpson are guiding the industry through those challenges, she said.

The list, compiled annually by Nation’s Restaurant News, highlights the achievements of top leaders in the restaurant industry as well as other industry innovators and groundbreakers. In addition to Sweeney and Simpson, this year's list also included U.S. Labor Secretary nominee and CKE Restaurants CEO Andy Puzder, Chick-Fil-A Chairman and CEO Dan Cathy, and Domino’s President and CEO J. Patrick Doyle.

Sweeney joined the NRA in 2007. This is her third appearance on NRN’s Power List. This year marks Simpson’s first time on the list. She joined the NRA in 2015.
