National Restaurant Association Conserve Program Announces Sponsorship with Omega-9 Oils

(Washington, D.C.) Today the National Restaurant Association (NRA) announced Omega-9 Oils as a sponsor of its Conserve sustainability program. Omega-9 Canola and Sunflower Oils, developed by Dow AgroSciences, provide sustainable oil solutions for the foodservice and food processing industries.

“As part of our Conserve Program, NRA provides tips and tools for restaurant operators looking to maximize their sustainability efforts in their everyday operations,” said Jeff Clark, Conserve Program Director. “Small changes like choosing a more sustainable oil source when frying food, can have a big impact on the environment and a restaurant’s bottom line. As a program sponsor, Omega-9 Oils will further our operator education on the importance of fryer oil conservation and help us to continue to promote best industry practices.”

“In the last ten years the use of canola oil has doubled in North America, and we’re now at a point where a growing number of restaurant chefs realize the huge benefits of Omega- 9, not only from a health but an efficiency standpoint,” says Dave Booher, Group Leader, Omega-9 Oils. “Omega-9 Oils demonstrates up to 50 percent longer fry life, resulting in fewer oil changes and lower oil use, less packaging waste, and lower supply cost for operators.”

Additionally, Omega-9 Oils have a unique nutritional profile with zero trans fat, among the lowest in saturated fat and the highest monounsaturated fat compared to other common vegetable oils.

Sustainability is becoming increasingly popular with restaurant diners. According to the NRA 2014 Restaurant Industry Forecast, over half of consumers say they are likely to make a restaurant choice based on its eco-friendly practices and a majority of restaurant operators across all segments say their guests are increasingly interested in environmentally sustainable menu items.

Omega-9 Oils and Conserve have created a series of blog posts and videos showcasing tips to reduce waste and extend oil life with proper frying techniques. To learn more about Omega-9 Oils and frying best practices visit NRA’s newly re-launched Conserve website here.
