National Restaurant Association Statement on the Senate Forgoing an Amendment Process on the Credit Card Competition Act
“This is the farthest the Credit Card Competition Act has advanced and that shows there is a change in attitude happening toward the cost of taking credit cards in our businesses. We are disappointed the Senate failed to allow any debate on amendments that would have made the GENIUS Act better – like the CCCA. We will continue to push for these important changes in the credit card processing market to improve business operations for small business restaurant owners and help bring down credit card costs for consumers.”
Processing credit card transactions is the third largest operating expense for most restaurants, behind food and labor.
The CCCA is bipartisan legislation that would drive down the high swipe fees paid on every credit card transaction by creating competition in the broken credit card processing market.
If passed, the CCCA will lower swipe fees, improve credit card security and service, and save U.S. businesses—including restaurants—and consumers an estimated $16 billion a year.
